redistricting

The saga of our being redistricted to a new school continues. We went to our "new" school last night. It is a bit horrifying. Apart from feeling like a prison, the only ESE program there is for behaviorally challenged students. The lack of services and knowledge about varied exceptionalities was quite evident. Honestly, we were also a little concerned about the complete change in socioeconomic status of the attendees of the school.

Praying that we get granted the McKay scholarship to stay at our current school. We are going to write a letter this weekend to circulate to the people making that decision. It is NOT in the best interest of Whitney to go to this new school.

I need a plan B.

singing

Ok, so now I completely don't know why the VPK class didn't take the Varied Exeptionalities kids with them to sing at the King Center this week. It was a program in cooperation with the Brevard department of Execptional Education...it was a completely INCLUSIVE performance that showcased the musical and acting talents of exceptional education students.

I'm completely floored.

Whitney sang in a small assembly this morning at school. It was terribly cute. The VPK kids and VE students sang three songs for the volunteers. Whitney did pretty good - she knew a lot of words and hand motions. Of course she had to be in center stage, and prefaced once song with "Come on everybody! Sing!" Every time they sang "I Love You" in Skinny-ma-rink-a-dink, she pointed at ME. It was sweet. She was prou, and liked having mommy there.

I am not sure why it hit me, but I was left a little melancholy afterward. I think maybe it has something to do with the VPK kids being invited to sing at the King Center, but our VE kids were not. Ok...they are a little unpredictable, but Whitney sure does love being on stage. Figuring out how to harness that is not going to be easy. Yes, it was a little feeling sorry for myself too for the trials that come with having a special needs kid. I know Whitney would not be Whitney without the special needs, but it's hard.
